I'm about to return to BW developing after a 20 year break & as luck would have it, am starting with Neopan 1600 shot at ISO 1200 (under conditions of somewhat flat lighting; classrooms & labs) I've decided to use Xtol- what dilution would you recommend- 1+1 or 1+3, with suggested times at 20C?
Also, I need to use 100ml per film, even if 1+3, which means a single roll in a 2-roll tank?
Thanks,
David

Hi,
I rate at iso 1000 and mostly develop in 1+1 for 7 min. I've never tried 1+2 or 1+3 to be honest. I'm not even sure if this is the best combination. Ive seen dshots of other people who look better than mine but have not yt bothered to do more testing.
Best regards,
Michiel Fokkema

Hi,
I have only used dil. 1+1 so far with good results. Higher dilutions, like 1+2 and 1+3, are supposed to increase sharpness but also grain. I have developed for 6' @ ISO1600 and 7' @ ISO800 (pretty much the times given in the Massive Development Chart) so I 'd try something in between for ISO 1200 and then fine tune from there.
Welcome back to developing, it's great fun.
