I guess the only thing guaranteed nowadays, is you never have enough money. I've just recieved an email from "CRR LUTON ENGLAND". To get my Leica Standard serviced, it'll cost £94 (no VAT).

I feel your pain. About three months ago, I sent in a Rolleiflex 2.8 Xenotar with some heavy cleaning marks on the taking lens to John van Stelton in Colorado to be polished and recoated and the camera CLA'd. It's not a camera that I use every day, so I was prepared for John to do his excellent work in his own time. It was 50-50 whether the lens could be done properly, but John had instructions from me to go ahead with the CLA, if the lens could be saved. Well, happy news for me -- the lens could be recoated and polished (John is a great guy and the only craftsman I'm aware of in North America who does this kind of work), but the bill: US$410. Don't get me wrong, I'm completely happy to pay for this kind of service . . .but I had tucked the fact that the camera was with him away in the recesses of my mind. Still: the check is cut, the bank balance is dangerously low, and the camera has been saved. Dave, you'll be happy when the camera is back in your hands again. Its worth it to keep these tools working.

Because we are too busy spending it to combat our GAS pains.

Yup. I do have plans to get the camera serviced. Hopefully the vulcanite will be given a new lease of life as well, but the shutter's more important.
My only concern is our delightful postal service... but I'm sure Eva will get to the shop (or whatever) intact, if I use enough bubblewrap.

Sent my 1C to Peter in a polythene container that had a snap on lid. Of course there was plenty of foam wrap. The container can deform a bit to absorb some knocks. It worked well.
I am very pleased with the service I had. It cost a bit more than your quote but I did have the curtains replaced.
PS Hoped the Trotters might win today but the Toffee-men lost which is one blessing!

I have resorted to having a 2nd job - I do weddings on the side now. So I have a full time, 45-50 hour/week job. I go to school for about 6 hours a night and up to 8 in the summer. And I shoot weddings. The last one pays for my photography stuff. Yes, this summer it pays for wedding-related stuff (big flashes, new digital SLR, new SLR lenses), but overtime it's a justification to get more camera equipment in general.
Now, I like wedding photography, and I have a mindset that works for it (I deal well with crisis situations, and can handle a bride that is going crazy fairly well). But that's what I have resorted to. For those that dont' know, I have been saving up for a CV system (body and lens) for over a year, and can never get past maybe a couple hundred saved up.

I've finally worked 5 days in a week. My bank balance is in the positive for the first time since the start of the year, but not for long!! I'm working 3 days a week for the next month - finally, semi-employment!!
Next stop, get (yet another) girlfriend
I'm trying not to spend money, but I can't help it. Two skate decks, some LF camera gear, maybe 'save' for camera cla's as well
