As mentioned in the Press-release from Oberkochen, Zeiss will announce new lenses and for the first time "accessories".

What kind of accessories? A camera?
Is the lens an accessory for the camera, or the other way round.
In the perspective of a lens manufaturer, an accessory for their lenses could also be the black box behind the lens-mount!

I have no idea what other lens accessories they have never made before?
Filter and stuff like that, would this make sense?

What do you think?

It's no possible to develop a motor winder for the zi considering the development of the base plate correct? Perhaps a lack of foresight on zeiss's behalf... wait, who the hell buys a film camera to use a motor drive these days anyway? My bad, forget useful accessories.

Maybe we will get to see a Zeiss branded shutter release cable, or even a softie. They would sell like wildfire. =)

I hope they release higher-speed lenses for their ZM line. Now, THAT would be something interesting!

I beleive the reason that Zeiss don't have faster ZM lenses is that they won't compromise image quality. i.e. if going wide causes the resulting MTF figures to fall outside their standards, they won't do it. BUT it's possible they are going to relax their standards to appeal to the consumerist tendancies of the M Mount market. We'll just have to be patient instead of wildly speculating just like the average consumer.

Well,

I guess that surely it must be possible for Zeiss to manufacture fast lenses that are up to specs. It only is a question of cost, isn't it?

And of willingness (free or contractual, actually)

I believe Leica compromises. It's sensible.

The info I've read from them recently about the new 35 Summilux talks about 'achieving high quality at acceptable cost'. I imagine given a far bigger budget they could make an even better lens.

I also believe Zeiss compromises in the same way, but that doesn't explain why no fast wides. ;)

remember those zeiss lenses ( except 16 and 85/2) are not made by zeiss. Cosina/voightlander make em and aren't good enough for zeiss to let them do the 16 and 85/2. So if zeiss were to make very high performing 1.4 lenses, would they be any better than voightlander lenses and if not then why bother because everyone would buy the voightlander cos they are cheaper. But if zeiss makes em then they will cost a lot of money and therefore compete directly with leica on price.
And how many people here have got the zeiss 85/2 and 16? Not many becuase they don't like the pricing. And how many who want 1.4 lenses will pay new prices for them if made by zeiss?
