New book - Cuba (M8)

yes, well done. i think the choice to do color suits the subject(s) well, and the variation among the pictures (men, women, children, all of various ages) is interesting. i also like your take on the "enviro" style: works well, when you apply it.

thanks for sharing!

A few good shots but I am not happy with the layout. I just don't like this approach of having one big photo extending a small portion of it into the next page. You end up not doing justice to the next photo which you must display in a small format. That's just me speaking for me and my taste.

Anyway, I don't think I'll buy this book because Cuba and certainly this style of picture taking of that country have been done to death!

Also, did you mean to say 'FOREWORD'? I've never read this word, 'FORWARD' in the context of a book's intro before.

I got surprised with the last picture. The red strapped flag and pics on the bakcground are from my favourite football/soccer team (Athletic Bilbao), which is a spanish (basque) one!!! I would like to know the history of such a "distant" supporter...

Congrats!

Thanks for the comments

Only rarely did I formerly ask anyone to pose. Usually it's by eye contact, they see I want to take a photo and look at me, often before they have indicated agreement or not. Of course the occasional person who indicated straight away they didn't want a photo I didn't take (except for the man called 'Primal Scream' who was a drunk and may have been screaming at me). Those who smiled and posed, and often wanted a dollar for doing so, usually did not make such interesting photo and there are few of those in the book

Nick, very nice work. You have some great images in there. Congrats.

I made a blurb book for my wife's birthday last week and I was impressed by the quality of their printing, paper and binding. All in all, a good deal.

Well done! Some super images.

It takes guts to put your images out there like this, particularly for a subject that has been photographed a lot. I say 'so what?' because every perspective, every frame is differnent. In this case, every frame is yours. Besides, it is often when visiting a place heavily shot that you come up with a new perspective.

Excellent photography throughout and the book has been well designed, the pages have been laid out very well. I have ordered a copy, thanks for the link.

Nice looking book. You've done a great job on the layout.

I too noticed the typo...should be "Foreword".

And (not to be picky), it's always been my understanding that the term "Preface" is to be used if it is written by the author. (Or do I have that backwards?) :)

Otherwise, very nice preview. :)

Nick...
why I feel the "Americans" (by R.Frank) echo in your title ? ;)
Joking aside, well done and beautiful shots really. Best luck for your book!

You are correct. I took a look around the webz and it would appear that preface is the correct term in this instance.

I really like the preview a lot, but I can't comment on the done-to-death-thing - I haven't seen it done before a lot. Once or twice maybe, in a somewhat similar fashion (could be that images from Cuba look a lot alike merely for them being taken in - well - Cuba).

Just out of curiosity, what exactly do Cubans do with the Dollar they sometimes earn for posing? What's money really worth in a communist state? Please correct me if I have a wrong idea of Cuba, I haven't made it there yet.
