Hi All,
Just pulled the trigger on this one, I have wanted a Canon P for a while now. The black repaint job looks good, and he says the rangefinder patch is perfect, no fading or seperation. Wrinkle in the curtain, I can live with that. Wind mechanism slightly tight, I figure that can be adjusted, if required.

And here is Camera Quest's writeup on the Black P:

Can't wait to get it! What do you think? I figured the paint job at $100-$125. Thant's probably low? Anyway, it's done.

Thanks Guys!
I think I made the right decision, to get it. Why not go for a black one?
Anyway I am stoked to have it, and start using it. Also buying an original P halfcase in the classifieds. Put a black Voigtlander strap, black TomA Softie, hairtie, and film memo on the back (of the halfcase) and I'm good to go.

I hope your advance lever action does get easier. The reason I sold my P, years back, was because of the ridiculously "tight" film advance motion. I sent the camera in for a CLA and the repair tech couldn't do anything, "just the way the camera was built," he told me.
But there is something about the way a black P looks, simply gorgeous.

Nice Dan!
I hope the painter stripped out the chrome before painting. Otherwise, the paint will wear very quickly and the chrome will show through.
Cheers,

"just the way the camera was built" ??? What's wrong with mine then ? Film advance on both my P and VI are butter smooth ...
BTW, it's a beauty in it's original color, but in black it beats everything

Thanks Benny!
I am hoping that's the case (that it was de-chromed before painting), I did consider that. Just have to see how it goes. I imagine the paint would not really stick well at all, to the original chrome finishing. It sure looks good in the photos, almost like the one on Stephen's site
Considering over here that KEH wants nearly $200 for a -broken- P I figure can have the film wind worked on, if necessary (I am thinking).

It will be interesting to see how the paintjob holds up. I do intend to use this camera, rather than placing it in a showcase, as part of a Canon display.
Since I don't have alot in it, I'm not going to be afraid to take it out, and see how it holds up. My guess is it will eventually brass, nicely. Like TomA's repainted Leica M's.

Congratulations on acquiring a gorgeous P.

qu'est-ce que c'est?
Looks beautiful in the photos. Price seems reasonable to me. I gave away my Canon P, and I don't think the recipient even cares. I need another one.

Great camera Dan! Love to see some shots of and with it!
I received your parcel with previous shooter yesterday, thank you! I'll take good care of it! Did you get the viewfinder yet? I hope so!

Light seals? Is mine missing something? There is nothing but bare, black-painted metal in the slots, hinge, and catch areas.

(No light leaks so far...)

To finish off my new Black P, I have added a Black Mr. Zhou Halfcase:
Should look totally cool. I had a tan Mr. Zhou on chrome M5. Loved it.

Wow!! L@@k What -JUST- arrived.
Wow!! L@@k What -JUST- arrived.
Unbelieveably quick shipment!
It is georgeous. The paintjob appears to be very hard and durable.
There is a slight -squeak- when advancing quickly, not noticable when winding is slowed down. I've seen this described in alot of P's. A bit tight on the advance but not bad at all. Perhaps it will improve with use.
I love it! Now to get the Black Mr. Zhou P Half-Case on it. It's on it's way.
