New Canonet III Q17

Got my new Q17 today. Very very good shape. Lens is pristine! Used the 'tin foil in battery compartment' method learned here and.....voila! Light meter works, all shutter speeds seem good. Very happy. Just filled her up with some 400 Tmax and will shoot it all off, develop and scan. Can't wait to see results. Cross your fingers.
Viewfinder pales compared to Bessa R but hopefully the lens will do it justice.

P.S. Still running film through my new Bronica S2a. Will develop that shortly. Scanning will be done on the new 4490. Ah, ain't birthday's great?! rob. 😛

The silver oxide batteries don't fit right. The foil brings the battery in contact with.....the contact.

I took the battery out of mine. Does that make me a super-Luddite, or just stupid?

Anyway, my Canonet is currently out of commission with a sticky shutter, but I can hopefully work up the nerve to fix that problem sooner rather than later.

I think it makes you practical.

I never understood the point of a metering system that works only in the auto mode.

Still a good camera though.

That's my only major complaint about the GIII. I would love to be able to conveniently tweak the exposure from what it suggests.

the canonet is indeed a good little camera.
I also like the yashicas.
But somehow i start to really really like the results from my minolta hi-matic (version 9). I use it in pure battery-free mode, after freed up the sticky shutter. Sometimes when it might be critical i use a handheld meter (mostly twice a day, at most, i meter and orient myselfd from there). The character of the lens is very pleasing, and the colours are amazing, i dunno what happens to them but they just look different.
While shooting i definitely like more with the contax (iia + sonnar), the results of the cheap hi-matic are superiour. MY results, i mean.

But back to the canonet... amazing little gadget. I will use mine more often, as a pocket-camera.
