I've been debating between the GR and the Merrill's, and since I already have the GRDIV, I'll give the Sigma a try. I pulled the trigger on a DP2M because they had them new, on sale for $699 on Amazon. I was going to sell a few things before a purchase, but at this price!? Only two left!!! I guess I'll be posting some used stuff in the classifieds soon ;

if it helps temper the gas, all the dp3m low prices seem to be from sellers from japan. which is probably fine, but it may create warranty issues if you ever need work done.

Sigma prices seem to go up and down. They are $799 direct from Sigma Canada, which is $750US right now. Not sure if they ship anywhere but Canada- seems unlikely.

Good point Dean! Fortunately the DP2Ms are from A US seller in New Jersey.

yup, no worries on beach camera, the dp2m seller. they're totally legit.

truth be told i recently bought a dp3m so it was in my own interest to find a reason why the prices were too low, if only to make myself feel better for paying more, lol.

give the dp2m a go and see if you like it - a lot of people decide they're too specialized. the merrills go on sale from time to time if you decide you need more than 1.

I just got a DP2m for $699 as well through B&H on their cyber Monday deal. I was gonna wait, but I couldn't pass that up either.

Went out with it for the first time yesterday (been raining for several days prior) and I am quite impressed with the image files.

Make note that if you bought from an authorized US dealer, Sigma has changed their warranty from 1 year to 4.

oh, and to the new merrill owners - you're probably read this somewhere, but in case you haven't, you can use the merrills for high iso black and white if you edit in sigma software and only use the blue channel in the color wheel. (basically, the lower red and green layers of the sensor are what introduce the high iso noise, so if you don't use those layers you have very good high iso capability). i've been happy even up to iso3200 in b&w, while others are happier at 1600. to me it makes the camera much more usable and less specialized.

Congrats. Good price.

Get all three like Jon :p did.

Turns out they are my most used cameras.

I rarely use all three together. I'll either use the DP1M and the DP3M together or the DP2M alone (or with a different system).

Mine will arrive tomorrow, I am very excited. Good time for me to upgrade my computer as well. I've been looking at Macbook Pros, as I have 6year old iMac now. I wonder if an 8GB RAM will be able to handle the new software in a somewhat timely manner!? :)

Mine has 4GB and it's just fine.

So something new must be coming from Sigma soon. I heard a rumor about a new interchangeable lens, mirror less system coming from Sigma.
These Foveon sensor cameras are amazing. Just needs faster image processing and better high ISO performance.

Sigma sent me a DP1 and DP2 last month to try out and I was really impressed with the image quality. The Foveon sensors are just amazing.

What I didn't like was having to use proprietary software and the cameras are really slow. Not to mention they were just a little "point and shooty" for what I do. If I were a landscape photographer however the DP1 would likely be my main camera.
