I was just invited to participate in the beta testing for the new M8/9 firmware. No specifics on features but it's in the final testing phase.

The reason for posting this...it's nice to know Leica is still going to make some firmware updates for the M8. Whatever the scope of the improvement, I'm happy as an M8 owner.

i hope they add an autofocus software and some live view.
also i would like some 12 million iso and 666 focusing points please.

no seriously, participate and tell us if its any good :D

Let us know when you can.

I would not mind Beta testing M8 firmware.

I'm hoping they add manual lens selection. And 16-bit Raw.

I would not mind writing M8 firmware.

I hope the new Leica software has an iphone mode.

I wonder if they finally implemented a lens selection menu for the M8. I wouldn't mind not having to hand-code my lenses ...

i have a question.
How many possibilities do we have of bricking our camera with updating the firmware? we all know that digital M cameras are really "sensitive" in a lot of areas. what happens if someone bricks his camera while updating firmware? or something like that. :S

I'll wait until it's available in black. :p

But seriously, I'm very pleased that Leica are continuing to support the M8.

I wonder what realistically they can add.
Im guessing manual lens selection on m8 is a given but apart from say card writing/processing speeds what else do people think could be added that wouldn't require hardware update?

Probably some card compatibility uprades, maybe white balance algorithm tweaking, who knows. We will see, any improvements are always welcome (though I am still very pleased with my M8 as-is).

Cool ... so Leica are going to beta test firmware on their fan base ... very sensible.

Better than a few years ago when they used them to beta test a camera! :D

Lack of 16-bit raw (as well as lack of funds :) ) is the main thing that would prevent me from buying an M8. I really hope Leica address this, even if the frame rate takes a hit.
