I finally bought an old fashioned replacement focusing screen for my Nikon Df from a Taiwanese company:

I got the Ec-B screen. It took two or three weeks to arrive and I was kept up to date by the seller via email. The screen is a modified Canon focusing screen and comes in a Canon box! Instructions are very brief but there is link to a website where more details are provided:

Fitting the screen was not too difficult. It comes with a pair of metal tweezer, another metal tool, finger stalls and several plastic shims. The Df already already has 2 metal shims. Through trial and error I found that two metal shims plus one plastic shim gave the best results. Focus seems to be spot on with my CZ 35mm Distagon at f2 and close range.
