$2500 to instantly turn you into Sebastião Salgado seems little enough!

Easy to understand - the law of supply and demand ...

The best camera is one that still works!
It's ridiculous ... what is wrong with these people? The first one is up to $2300.00 and has thirty two bids!
Why the hell would you pay two grand plus to own a camera that retails for $1200.00 USD unless you were totally deranged? Not to mention six months from now it will be available everywhere probabaly for just over a grand!
Sometimes you really have to wonder at the 'have to have it now' mentality that pervades society these days. :bang:

It might be some time before there is enough stock to satisfy demand as the assembly plant was damaged in the earthquake the other week. I suppose this sort of thing is a symptom of the uncertainty of supply in the near future ?

Is it only me, but it looks to me that all the X100's shipped to Thailand are on Ebay.

I can understand this behaviour for items that are actually limited release but the X100 is just an off the shelf consumer item ... no different to a microwave oven IMO.
If someone must have it and has the extra grand to burn good luck to them though ... I'd like to be in that position!

I've just had an email from Nigeria asking for my bank details as they have an X100 waiting for me along with 5million dollars.

For some people, spending $2300 is like us spending $5. That's life.

We can be a pitiful bunch of addicts, can't we? (human beings, I mean, not just the camera crowd)

Yikes! That one page must have the entire output to date. Was every x100 delivered to an ebay Flipper?
I wish the Konica 35mm UC-Hexanon market would behave that way.

I bought one from eBay for $2000. Why?
1. I had been planning to travel to Japan next week. I was going to pick one up there.
2. In the UK, the X100 retails for £1,000. $2,000 = approx £1,200
3. There is no supply in the UK.
4. I will be in the UK for 1 day next week. After that, I will be in Israel for six months.
5. Israel has no camera for less than 30% over UK prices. Most are 50%. 30% over UK prices = £1,300.
6. In anticipation of the X100 I sold my GXR the day before the Japan earthquake. I have no point-and-shoot camera.
Therefore, as I'm not going to be in Japan, there is no supply in the UK, and if I didn't buy one now I would have to pay more than eBay or do without a point-and-shoot for 6 months, the £200 premium was worth it.
Still think all the bidders are mad?

I see no reason to overpay for any digital camera. But for some people, money is not an overwhelming concern in their lives, and I do understand that.

All I can say from the ebay auctions is that Fuji should have shipped less to Thailand and more to Europe.

You don't know how lucky you are ..
You don't know how lucky you are ..
For some of us spending $1700 is exactly like you spending $1200
If you are not in the USA - uk retail of £1050 is about $1700 - I have seen a few go at $1800 on eBay. Not much difference for this side of the pond.
If there were any available it would be worth a trip.
