Well, apologies in advance to all those who are (perhaps understandably) sick and tired of hearing about the X100 but there is some new information (to me, at least) in the latest AP issue. The issue may not have hit the stands yet (not sure, since I do not live in the UK) but it's available as an e-zine through Zinio. Since I am not allowed (again, understandably so) to promote the site I have put together to compile info on the X100, I will post a brief summary here:

- Sensor is referred to as "new" and "newly constructed" in the article. Whether they may be using these terms to refer to an existing but customized sensor or an altogether new sensor, it's not clear. Certainly, "new constructed" would seem to imply the latter.
- Regardless of what it is, Fuji is claiming an expected dynamic range that exceeds their S5 camera, which was already known for a class-leading DR.
- Fuji also claims that AF will be very fast and shutter lag extremely low due to the new EXR processor and the new sensor.

And, yes, this is all from Fuji and not an independent source and "very fast" and "extremely low" always need to be put into perspective but, if this is even close to the truth, the X100 is looking better and better.

If you had read the Fuji PDF which was available at the time of the Photokina annoucement, you would have known then all that you just told us is new since then.
Oh and they claim its the best lens they have ever made. Focuses to 10cm for macro shots. Best image quality of any finepix camera to-date etc etc.....

Hmmm, even if you're not allowed to publicise your own site, there's nothing to stop you mentioning it in your sig.

Altho, I didn't notice any new information there. The points about DR, focusing, and the implication (but not the specific information) that this is a 'new' sensor were mentioned in the Photokina coverage and have all been discussed in our mammoth X100 thread.

Yes, I see your point. Most of this information is in (or can be implied from) the PDF. Apologies for causing undue excitement (or, anger, depending on your opinion of the X100 :) )

I didn't geek out with the PDF, so I thank you for the info. Plus, a PDF is supposed to say these things... but sometimes it is better to hear (see) someone say it.

Thanks. I did read the new release PDF a while back but my recollection was that it was somewhat vague (or vaguer, at least). I still find it reassuring to hear those statements confirmed and re-iterated to AP.

Paul,

Not trying to play hard to get at all. I'd love it for as many people as possible to visit and contribute to the site. But I posted the URL here a while back and it got deleted. Stephen explained that it was against the website rules, which I completely understand. I think the idea is to stop this from becoming a free for all for people that want to advertise all of their stores and websites, which would not be good for anyone.

Assuming it is not against the rules, I'd be happy to send you the URL on PM.

So, c'mon, what's the website URL?

That URL is easy to find.

The article was a rehash of the Fuji press release with stock pictures and has little new information. I could have written that without visiting Photokina.

Within the week of Photokina, I have read all 64 available news or hands-on report...where I compiled and/or deduced the specification now posted in the "X100 - Back to the Future" thread. There were only two reports that has any substance or original information...

Hope they keep the "conventional" shutter release in the production model, using a normal cable release, instead of the usual expensive and unreliable remote one.
