My LX-5 arrived yesterday, and I am very pleased. Have not yet configured it to my liking, but went out today to do a few shots in iA (Intelligent Auto) mode. I am impressed. These were on the DC National Mall, looking toward the Capitol Building, where the fire department was doing a (belated) 9-11 remembrance. I played with the various aspect ratios offered on the lens ring.

Other Aspect Ratios, L-R: 1:1, 3:2, 4:3

I know you'll enjoy it. Mine creates an internal conflict since I am torn between the LX5 and my D7000. The LX5 travels well on a bicycle though.

I don't know if you're a new or old photographer but, if like me, you prefer a viewfinder then you should really try the add-on electronic viewfinder — not bad.

Dick - You've got me by two years. I, too, bike a lot, and will appreciate the LX-5 for this. My EVF just arrived today, and I look forward to it. I also plan to use an optical 25mm finder on occasion. My conflict is not so much with other digitals, but with the many fine film cameras that are falling into disuse.

Best regards,
James

Nice pics...

I expect to see more "prosumer" small sensor cameras because that will be all that's left of the category now that cell phones with decent snapshot capabilities are taking over so you "Coolpix" buyer now just uses his/her cell phone. I'm seeing the more and more, and ironically, this category may die before film does!

I'm torn on these kind of cameras. I love their portability. I love that they're giving you acceptable ISO up to 800. I love that you have manual control. I really love they're coming with f2 lenses.... I don't love the price of these things though, and I also think that their performace is really the same for the most part from camera to camera because their small sensors are "the great equalizer". I get tempted, but I think I'll just hang on to my cheap but very good snap happy Fuji F20 that gives me a pretty decent ISO 800 and an f2.8 lens...

Not sure if "buying anything new" would "buy me anything new".

In some ways, I think this is why Nikon makes "crappy" Coolpix cameras and doesn't seem to be all that interested in many prosumer small sensor offerings. It's as if Nikon is saying - "Meh, there's only so much you can get out of these tiny sensors... The money is in the mass market where price prevails... and this market is going away soon anyway due to cell phones... Prosumers can buy our APS-C DSLRs and lenses..."
