Don't do it Julian! You'll be destroyed by the fun and quality of this amazing camera! I gave in to lust in December and mow I'm spending time away from wife and work to fulfill the photo needs that this camera demands. turn back before it is too late!

He he, I'd buy one in a New York minute if it'd do that for me
My worry is if I buy one that I won't get out of the office or away from my wife (we work together) until it's paid off

working with DNG?
,.HI there, since you're ahead of me, do you shoot DNG ? and if so, how do you download these images so that y ou can work with Photoshop? I"m going crazy trying to figure this out. Won't work with Aperture or Iphoto..seems like a waste to have a camera like this and NOT use DNGboilerdoc2 said:Don't do it Julian! You'll be destroyed by the fun and quality of this amazing camera! Diana, try out Adobe Lightroom. It reads native DNG perfectly.

Tellyouwhat, Julian, the RAW files, are the only files usable on the M8. The jpg's out of this camera look awfull. Just forget them. You sellect files and file combinations in the 'set' menu. Sellect 'Compression' - 'DNG' - which is the name of the Leica M8 RAW files.

The best way to download from any digital camera is to get an external USB card reader. Downloading from the camera is always a ridiculously ineffective way to do it. Just turn off the camera, take the card out and plug it into the card reader, then drag the picture folder from the card reader's folder to wherever you want it. Once that's done, just send Bridge to where you put the folder and you're in business.

Enjoy your M8. I am not in agreement with the above, the JPEG's are not that bad, quite good compared to other camera's JPEG's. I always shoot both DNG and JPEG files (get a 4GB Ridata 150X SD card). I love my M8!

I vote with Olsen on this matter. The jpg's are not very attractive as produced by the M8. Even at the lowest setting sharpening artifacts appear that look like little mouse droppings.
On the other hand, the little post production required to convert the DNG files is worth it for the breathtaking quality that result.
It's interesting that I rarely shoot RAW with my series of Canon cameras. Only when I was worried about exposure and wanted the option to push or pull or change white balance do I save Canon pictures as RAW. The low amount of processing imposed on the JPEG image by the Canon algorithms and the highly dependable (compared to M8) white balance lets me get away with shooting jpgs 99% of the time.
