Hi!
My name is Russ, and I'm an Electro-holic...

I just found this great forum a few days ago, and have been reading through the past posts. What a wealth of information! You guys are to be commended!

For anyone who cares, here's a little bit about me:

I bought a brand new G in around 1970 or so. It was my first 35mm camera. I really loved it, but after a couple of years I wanted something with interchangeable lenses, so I traded my Electro in on a Pentax Spotmatic. Around this time I started working in the Photo Department of an eastern department store chain called "Caldor". (Anybody remember them? They went bankrupt a few years back...) Anyway, I worked my way up to Manager of the department and as such I was able to buy a brand new Nikon Photomic Ftn for half list price. That was stolen a few years later so I was forced to grap a Minolta SRT-101 just to have a camera. (This sure is boring, isn't it?)

To make a long story not that much shorter, I recently ran an eBay search for the Electro 35 just for the heck of it and was really surprised to come up with 4 pages of entries!! I bought one, of course. and another. and another. and another...

Are you beginning to see a pattern here?

Using the information that I found here as well as at Yashica Guys site and Matt's Cameras, I have just finished doing a restoration on the second DOA Electro that I bought, a Hong Kong GS. It now works great! (The first one is MINE!!! You can't have it!! I'll give it up when you pry it from my cold, dead fingers!!)

I'll be putting the second one on eBay tonight if you want to check it out, eBay username b1bmsgt

By the way, when I took the top off to check the POD, I found that it was in perfect condition, and made of a clear plastic of some sort. Could this be original, or is it a replacement? Just looking at it, the glue job looks factory to me, but I have another Hong Kong GS with a POD that is a crumbling mess. Just curious. Later today I am going to start removing the lens assembly to change the POD in the hopes of resurrecting yet another Electro. Wish me luck!

Regards,

Russ

Hi Russ, and welcome, you seem to be a bit of an oddball like the rest of us.

FYI (you're a newby, right ?) house etiquette is to offer surplus equipment to RFF members first, through the classifieds, and then to use ebay a day or so later if no takers. It's no big deal and everyone understands you can sell where you like, but most of us prefer to deal amongst ourselves when possible.

(apologies if i jumped in before you b.a. joe)

Regards and once again welcome, John C.

hi Russ

congrats on getting your Electros working.. they're great cameras.. I have two GSNs, myself

as Hektor pointed out, we prefer to keep any For Sale listings here separate from eb*y.. we don't like to have people using this site just for additional advertising.. but the upside of that is that you'll often sell your equipment here much quicker and with a lot less hassle.. items in good condition often sell in hours or minutes, and I have yet to do business with anyone here who I don't consider entirely trustworthy

Hi Russ! :)

I bought a brand new G in around 1970 or so. It was my first 35mm camera. ... traded my Electro in on a Pentax Spotmatic. ...

Wow, same story here, kinda. Around 1970 I bought my first real camera, a Mamiya Super Deluxe rangefinder ... and ... traded "up" to a Pentax Spotmatic a few years later. (I have been kicking myself for selling the SD ever since.) :(

I recently ran an eBay search for the Electro 35 just for the heck of it ...

I stumbled on to this forum when I went on my quest to re-acquire one of the Mamiya SDs. I ended up with a Canon QL17 GIII (which gave me my baptism by fire in camera repair) and one working Mamiya SD made from two almost-working ones from Ebay.

I think you'll like it here. There are some great and talented people.

And think twice before you sell any of your RFs. :) :)

Thanks for the welcome, folks.

Sorry, but I didn't know about the classifieds. I'll do that from now on. I am trying to resurrect a few more corpses...

Regards,

Russ

Welcome to the forum Russ, real good to see another 'character' joining us RF oddballs here. :D

Recon you'll fit just right in. Sounds like your already getting RFF GAS. :D

Have fun.

The classifieds here are a great way to sell. You might spark a feeding fenzy, though!

And yes, I do remember Caldor. I used to shop there occasionally when I lived in Connecticut.

Welcome aboard.

Robert
