I thought I would post an introduction to a newly completed project from Varanasi, India; ‘The Disorder of Species.” http://www.thomasstanworth.com/portfolio

This is not the final edit as I need to make some new prints and I’m overseas, but the change will be no more than 3-4 additional images and a handful of substitutions. It’s rather different to my Afghanistan work, which I will be returning to in the spring, when I commence new projects there.

Varanasi is one of the most thought provoking places I have ever visited and, quite unexpectedly, the ideas fomented will flow seamlessly into projects that I am planning to explore elsewhere in the world in the coming years.

Oh, and in case it matters, it was all shot on film RFs.

Just took a look at that and the other projects you have on your site, Thomas - all, genuinely, very impressive.
I'm always a bit coy about projects that involve people taking analogue rangefinders to Asia and doing projects there after a friend made a remark about this seemingly being the only way to prove one is a "real photographer". Not really my opinion, but its always there, niggling away at the back of my head lol
Anyway, even if that had have been shot anywhere else on the planet, its still a truly impressive piece of documentary. Well done.

Well-seen, inspiring and thought-provoking.

In light of this I think I'll revisit "Jeff in Venice, Death in Varanasi".

LOVED The Series....
The 3 that came to Mind and made me Giggle & Smile 😀
'looking at an Xray'
'Man Sleeping with his Monkey'
'Ooops I'm in Trouble... Public Spanking'

I had the opportunity today to sit and view all three of the portfolios with a man familiar with the regions. His insight and commentary added a lot to the experience, and as a result I was able to understand much more of what was shown. We both agreed that these are outstanding pictures.

Thank you, Thomas, for sharing.

And to helenhill - my friend said the boy across the old man's lap was not being spanked, but that the old man was massaging the boy's back. He chuckled when he saw the picture.

Excellent work ! ... and sad to see what has happened to Afghanistan and it`s people.

Well Said and How True Gabor !

"The Disorder of Species" relieved the Tension and made me Smile after the Visual Experience of "Russians & Royals" & "Not for Export" Broke My Heart
