Just received from Ebay purchase. Looks very good to me. My question is:

What shots would you take to put it through its paces?

I'd probably set up a photo shoot with Kate Beckinsale.. but if she's busy, I'd try Tara Reid

Is this an example of why your title is "Resident Troublemaker"?

Mike :D

Katherine Zeta Jones would do nicely...

Actually go for a stroll at lunch with it, especially if you have a nice community with character.

Hard to say. Not really. I've shot everything from dark pool halls to blast furnaces with mine. Outdoors - find a hood for it. Otherwise, fire away. It is a great camera, and I'm afraid I may have to sell mine to thin things out after a mad lens purchase.

Yeah, you wish! {ducking, running} :)

Seriously, I would consider testing out its low light capability. Things like street scenes at night, neon, available light shots in a bar or restaurant or casino (some casinos don't like it). Open it wide and focus intently to check out the bokeh. (There's that word again.) Practice handholding at 1/30 and 1/15. A fave of mine is subway stations, but you might wanna wait a while for those. :( The ones I used to like were those lit by the bare dim bulbs and not fluorescents. Available light shots under ordinary bulbs have a certain charm to them. Your QL17 is good for that! :)

Practice fudging the exposuire by metering on what you want to expose for, holding the shutter part way down, then composing and firing. Don't forget to focus! :)

Oh, and you gotta do the self-portrait in the mirror. :)

Welcome to the Canonet addiction ;)

I know a model who looks just like Katherine Zeta Jones, alas we never seem to have the same free time slots to work together and she's 2 hours drive away :(

Back to topic I always take mine around the streets to give it a good test. People, street details, buildings, variations in light and texture. One 36 (37) roll later I know if I have a good one, which happily I always have so far.

If you have the Canolite D as well then don't forget to try it with that. It's an amazing little flash for a 70s beastie and I usually prefer natural light.

Thanks

Thanks

Thanks for everyone's input, and especially to those who had the foresight to insert "practical" into my request for advice. I am afraid that Kate/Tara are metaphors for the rabbit chased by the greyhounds, and of course never caught. I too, believe in keeping the rabbit well ahead of the hounds, from a management standpoint; but Kate/Tara, get serious. I am going to upload my first 12 shots to the gallery, for comment.
