@ Back Alley :
I know you crop very often - you're a bad boy ;-)
But some of yours "complete" pictures are already invited and presented in the group, and they're great pictures!

I crop too, but mostly as a result of straightening the horizon, not easy to get it right in camera with wonky frame lines.

@ Ezzie :
Sometimes the same for me, but I always conserve the 3:2 factor

Idem Ditto for me.

"No cropped image"
Curious with a rangefinder no?
No framing can be accurate with those little beasts.
Unless one shoot only at medium to long distance with 40mm lenses through 35mm framelines perhaps...
Thanks no thanks sorry.

Hmmmm…
In my opinion it's really quick and interesting to frame with rangefinder because you can see OUT of your picture (beyond the white lines).
So, you can see both what you keep and what you cut…
Don't you believe that RF cameras are more intuitive than precise?
Personaly, I think this approach is one of the main difference between RF and SLR.
So, about the "Pure R-D1 Pictures" group :
I can't be sure the pictures I chose aren't cropped…
With the rule "no cropped images", my intention is simply to respect the 3:2 ratio and the natural features of the lenses : I'm not a dictator!

Framing on the R-d1 is actually quite easy, I seldomly get that part wrong

I think it depends on the camera, and also on the lens choice.
On my RD1s the framelines are very much a guide only. Even with a 50mm, the centre of my image comes out off centre in the final shot.
If I'm shooting with a 90mm, the framing is more of a guess.
I don't crop to fix a bad picture, just to save a nice picture being spoilt by the RD1's less than perfect framing, something I never had much problem with on my M6.

Thank you for your constructive comments guys, it allowed me to consider and change a little bit the rules of the Flickr group "Pure R-D1 Pictures"

Not sure if cropping has the same meaning in your mind and mine. Of course RF cameras are more intuitive, otherwise i wouldn't be using them for 30+ years despite of my using SRLs as well. What i say is just the same as what you're acknowledging at the end of your sentence above: framing is *imprecise* with rangefinders. Reason why cropping is often necessary because your camera records more than what you see in your viewfinder. SLRs are (almost) WYSIWYG, RFs (so far) are not."No framing can be accurate with those little beasts"...In my opinion it's really quick and interesting to frame with rangefinder because you can see OUT of your picture (beyond the white lines). Ooooh! I can't wait to join this group. I just bought a Demo model R-D1s from Adorama Camera and a CV 35 f/2.5 (got the lens, camera will be here tomorrow).
I hope to make regular and worthy contributions to the group.
Cheers!

I thought you were going to create a rival group, Joe. Or at least take over for the MIA admins for the main R-D1 group.

i don't think anyone can just take over a group...and i wonder if i could add another group with a twist to it...otherwise not much sense in forming another.
any ideas?

@ matthewm : Welcome!
@ back alley : I've already invited some of your pictures in the group, so you're already one of our members
I'm sure everybody understand the difference between the "EPSON R_D1" group and the "Pure R-D1 pictures" group, don't you?
