Took a walk this morning to an empty factory complex. The new-to-me R-D1 had arrived yesterday, the CV Nokton 40/1.4 the day before. Thanks to all the contributors on this forum for all the helpful writings and images I found here. I had been using a pana/leica L1 dslr, which I liked for its manual controls and image quality, at least in good light or by flash. This camera got me back into manual lenses too. The epson feels like a continuation of my initial impulse. The 30 minutes I spent on the grounds of this empty factory today were the most restorative of the weekend. I enjoyed the quiet, playing the role of receptive observer.

To support some of the themes in this forum:
  • I paid more attention to framing images, instead of shooting for capture with cropping later
  • Shooting with two eyes open is wonderful.
  • I love being able to fold away the screen
  • Small size (at least vs the chunky L1) is a blessing
  • The colors from Epson Photo Raw do look distinct. I haven't yet been able to duplicate the mix of color/contrast in SilkyPix.
