Just received on Monday a Bessa R2A from Stephen G. and have been trying to learn how to use it. It seems very manageable and so far I like it. One thing that I'd like feedback from RFF here is that in removing an M lens is very, very tight and really requires a great effort to remove it and even to put it on. Any way to alleviate this? I can't even imagine having to put on an LTM to M adapter. I'll probably never get it off again! Thanks for any input.

Well - I would only say - I had an R3A and putting the lens on and off took just about reasonable amount of force. Try a different lens to figure out whether it is the lens or the camera mount. If it is the camera than just contact Stephen.

Try a drop or two of oil on the lens mount, wiped off as thoroughly as you can. To quote an old engineer I know well, "It's extraordinarily difficult to remove oil, without using a solvent." And from my own experience, the tiniest amount of oil can make an extraordinary difference.

Cheers,

R.

It shouldn't be like that, Tony.

You can either ask Stephen to swap the camera, or loosen the Bayonet brackets yourself. In a mild case a teenie bit of oil (I use gun oil) on the mount works too - but as Roger said - applied very carefully.

Roland.

Thanks all for your responses. I called Stephen and discussed the problem and sent it back. He'll probably exchange it and I should have it back by next Tuesday. I think that a spring in the lens release button is broken. The camera itself is a dandy and a good back up for the M2 especially next month when I have to send it to Youxin. Thanks again.

Tony, congrats on the Bessa. An R2A was my first M-mount rangefinder. Very pleasant camera in use - and the AE is nice to have as an option. I think the CV 35/2.5 was made for this body - like bourbon and branch water.

Thanks to all for your responses. I received the replacement today 10/29 and everything is working perfectly. I'll resume the film one frame beyond where it is stopped and hopefully get some good shots with the Planar 50/f2. Looking forward to this one.
