New RD-1x
Hi,
Epson is going to release this new baby. The main difference would be SDHC support as well as a fixed 2.5 LCD. Please reference to http://www.epson.jp/products/colorio/photoviewer_digitalcamera/rd1xg/
Actually, I don't care about the LCD, but SDHC support is important. If RD1 and RD1s can be updated via firmware to get SDHC support, that will be great.

... likes film again.
Except the now supported SDHC card, specs seem to keep the same as the R-D1s. 6.1 Megapixel APX-sized sensor.
That's good news, keeping an alternative to the M8.2 in the market !

$3040 for an R-D1x when you can get an M8 for $2500?

For those who can't be bothered with google translator: 6.1mp APS/C sensor. RAW+.jpg. 16x digital zoom. 28/35/50mm framelines. 2.5 inch LCD on the back. It appears to come with a handgrip. Street date in Japan is April 9.

Talking about bad market timing for Epson.

Is this a joke? Releasing a 6.1 mp camera at this point in digital history at that price?

Apparently there is a market. But it's a bit like a Nikon D70 to D70s transition. In other words, obsolete.
I know perfectly well that most of us don't need more than 6Mp (well I don't), but why not a more modern sensor? I'll happily trade in the pixels for better hi-ISO though.
Any word on price?

MSRP is 299,800 yen and expected street price is around 200,000 yen.

$1 = 95 yen or something these days.

The translator threw me a price of 20 million yen, which is, quite frankly, impossible. I think the translator misread the formatting of the numbers, and it meant 200k yen, which would be, according to the current fix on xe.com, $2,046.29.

A 6mp camera for $2,000? That's just nuts. Has Epson gone adrift?

Five years ago that would have been a decent deal.

$2000 seems high (to me), but this may push the prices of used R-D1 and R-D1s down,,,,

Where are they getting the sensors?
Who has made a 6mp aps-c sensor in the last several years?
Seems it would be more expensive to spec a sensor no one is making than to spec something off of Sony's shelf.

When you consider the fact that a new m8 is 4 grand, and a new m8.2 is 6 grand (adorama prices, at least), 2 grand for a brand new m mount digital isn't that bad, especially when none of them are full frame. Granted, if they had put a full frame sensor in, and used a modified ikon top instead of a modified bessa top, and set a 3000 or 3500 price point, they would have been in a position to practically put leica out of business.

Well, it makes no sense at all.

Maybe there's a batch left. They won't make that many after all.
$2000 is bearable (just) IF the sensor would be something special. If it is the same as before, no thanks.
