I am checking my mails this morning and find, that Matsuiyastore on the bay has a brand new R-D1x in stock!

It goes for 3.000 USD, but my thinking is this:

If the digital M8 or it's variants in second hand are not for you or you like the handling of the R-D1 better, this is still a great deal.

I still have my R-D1 (but rarely use it anymore).
I did fall in love with my now daily camera for a while - a M8.2.
If it was not for this, I might be tempted, to exchange the R-D1 against the new R-D1x for:

- missing redundant swivel screen (I never used it and would like the more robust-out of one piece design)
- the fantastic possibility of using contemporary SD cards, rather than old sluggish 2GB SD cards (I could share same cards with all SD card cameras, I use, rather than keep those extra old cards for the R-D1)

I never bought from Matsuiyastore, but these people have a stern reputation.

Happy shopping … ;-)

I bought a used R-D1 with firmware upgrade from them. Quickly shipped, item in excellent - basically like-new - condition. Not sure i would pay over 2x as much for an R-D1x as I paid for the R-D1, though.

Stop kidding!
IMO there's NO DIFFERENCE with R-D1; 1GB SD cards are more than sufficient (100 raw files or more!) - they're really little items in the pocket, and you can change it in few seconds!

For change, with 3000$ you can have one or several very good lenses on your R-D1 AND your M8.
Did you try the Voigtlander Ultra-wide Heliar 12mm?
Did you try the ZM lenses?

Is it hiding advertising for Matsuya????

Cool down, cool down!

Not at all. Me just having had a croissant, fresh coffee and got a mail (from ebay), as I still have that follow auctions for R-D1 thingy active.

I never bought anything from the shop, nor do I have any connection with it … jeeez.
I was not aware, the R-D1x is readily available for a lower price, but I am aware, that there are people, who buy second hand digital Leicas for the same money (like me and my second hand M8.2).

There are simply sometimes people, who like to buy a new item over a different second hand item - be it from EPSON or from Leica.

So simple is that.

Me was just handing the information during my breakfast, as these R-D1x'es are not showing up everyday in the newspaper so to speak.

Oh … and yes, I find having to keep around a different, obsolete type of SD cards a pain, as I prefer to use the much faster SDHC cards, I use in the M8.2 and Ricoh GRDs.

Interesting to me is, that the long time proclaimed price fall of the old, used R-D1 just doesn't seem to happen (at least not in China), as I see them around in shops as stable @ 900 − 1200 EUR, as ever.
