Hi,
Today I bought a used M8 with a short money back test period. This is my first digi-M. I do not have any IR cut filters, and I don't think I'll have my hands on any soon enough to test colors / blacks, etc. I will of course test all of the bits of the camera that I'm used to, like the rangefinder adjustment / clarity / speeds etc... But, what I'm wondering is what should I be doing to test this camera otherwise? ie: things to look out for that are specific to the M8 that would be a red flag?
Any help would be great, thanks.

Go out and take some low light shots at all ISOs. Intentionally underexpose the images then look for any out of place bright pixels in a 100% zoom on screen. Also look for vertical green, red or blue lines that radiate from hot pixels. Check the center of the image and see if there is a line down the center. While this is common, it shouldn't be obvious if it's there. Check to see what firmware version the camera has loaded. It should be up to v2.005.
Check the display in the viewfinder to make sure it works in all modes and in Aperture priority mode make sure that every indicated speed is displayed from 32" all the way up to 1/8000. When I received my M8 there were a few bars of the in-viewfinder numbers that didn't display properly. It's still within warranty, I just haven't bothered to send it in yet.

Other than that, have fun!

Thanks Phil. How thick of a line down the center should I be looking for, or will it be obvious if its there?
