got the zorki 4 + jupiter 9 from Oleg

a 1958 version,new curtains/new RF assembly fitted(from new untouched factory spares) - old style exposure speeds(1/25 1/50 etc)

body+lens+never ready case+orange filter+rectangular hood+caps = 72$.

now shooting a test film

Now I am intrested in exchanging my m42 lenses and accessories and the pentax k1000 for J9 and j12 and finders or the equivalent.

That is a great price for an Oleg camera.

I must conduct more research. Thank you for the information, comrade.

Yo! Michael! Congrats! Oleg's da man, heh? Sounds like a good kit. Get out there and fire at will!

developed the first roll (tmax 400 in tetenal ultrafin liquid).
some observations(by looking at negatives)

1)well exposed negatives-shutter is accurate with new curtains(no wonder it is from Oleg Khalyavin)

2)nice midtones(lots of greys even with dim situations)
3)the lens is not as sharp as my slr nikkor primes(side by side with nikkor 50/1.4 and sigma 28/1.8 in nikon af mount both on a nikon fm2n) - didnt expect it to be.
4)the shutter is freaking loud
5)i cant get the horizon straight for the life of me.
6) i can handhold down to 1/25 f2(as opposed to 1/15 f1.7 on my canonet) which is more or less enough
7)i like it much more then the canonet
8)rewinding takes time-not a quickly reloadable camera(didnt expect it to be)
9)a jupiter 8 with dedicated square hood cicks flare's fundament
10)I like click stops on the f-ring.I wish it was possible to after market them
11)I wish someone would want my pentax k1000 with 50/2 and m42 lenses and give me ltm lenses instead.

just do it by the feel of the carmera in your hand. never mind the framelines if you wear glasses (like me).

Or, get on of those spirit levels.

I have an Idea-Drawing a couple of lines on the VF with a sharpie pen and ruler - to help adjust leveling, rule of thirds etc.

What M42 glass are you looking to move on, Michael? I don't have much in LTM to get rid of, though (if I can get it working) I might have a surplus I-61 L/D...

Cheers

The Zorksters with the big viewfinders are a relatively inexpensive way to enjoy a LTM interchangeable mount system. The design when compared to screw mount Canons and Leicas is rather crude.

Parallax and framing are one the problems with the big Zorki viewfinders.

On another forum, I noticed that both Rick Oleson and Mike Kovacs aim the top of viewfinder frame about two inches above and two to three inches to the left a subject when shooting close ups. With my Zorki 3, the predecessor to your Zorki 4, I usually just step back a bit and frame a bit more loosely.

The other problem that I have is when shooting with an 85/2 J-9 in low-light its focusing isn't always spot on. The RF base isn't that wide.

That said, while the previously mentioned Kiev is a more precise shooter, it isn't as easy to repair and doesn't have the natural hand-hold of the older Zorki 3 / 3M. While less precise than the Kiev for framing, the big Zorki viewfinder has a diopter adjustment, which is less of strain on my aged eyes.

pentax k1000+50/2A smc.lomo k mount to m42 adapter.pentacon auto 50/1.8, extension tubes,135/2.8 pallas magenta(nice lens with telescopic hood and 55 filter ring);vivitar x2 teleconverter - I want something decent and collapsable,something wide and something 75-90.

Oh, well. My I-61 isn't really what you're after, then, and I've got versions of everything you're moving on in M42. 'Twas worth a try...

The Zorki 4 is nice, isn't it? I played with one for a while before selling it on to a friend; I was quite taken with it!

I really like it - a basic camera body that has everything you need, without a distracting meter, zoom lenses and 1/8000 shutter speeds. I also like a camera system that fits in a small slr bag.
