All set to shoot some Halloween street parties tonight. Extrapolating from the Sony NEX 5N manual, with ISO 6400 and F1.2, that tiny little flash should be able to stretch out to about 150 feet. That's almost a quarter of a block!

With my right hand "locked in" with the camdapter strap and my left hand on the manual focus lens, it feels pretty good, actually. But yes it does look unbalanced.

since the lens sticks out so far, the light from the flash will be blocked in the lower part of your photos resulting in a big shadow.

Hi Pablito,

I was curious if what you said might be true so I just tested it out at various distances - up close .7m to around 30 feet and in fact there are no shadows. It could be because of the 1.5 crop factor. So actually it works fine in that regard.

One thing I DID discover though, was that at the larger apertures (wider than F4) and at high ISO, that the flash did over-expose those subjects which were close in. My guess is that the flash has a limited range of output not just on the high side, but on the low side as well. I'm guessing that the flash is not able to REDUCE it's power enough and so is overexposing.

LOL - a big Metz 60 would balance it up more, and allow us on another hemisphere to see when you are taking shots ...

very nice! Will be most interesting to see if even the NEX 7 can match this great ISO 6400 performance!

Easy to Focus

Easy to Focus

No. It's quite easy to focus. Of course, I'm near-sighted and can always look over the top of my glasses to see up close with the camera not too far away from my face. For waist level shots, it helps to have progressive lens glasses as well.

I do, however, think an EVF will be an improvement. I have one arriving soon.

Thanks - let us know what you think of the EVF when you receive it, if you don't mind. Ta.

OT: I finally got the camdapter strap you use, and I have to say I love it!

NEX-5N + EVF + Campdater Strap + "the strap" from leica goodies + CV 35/1.4

small, light, and maybe the best usability so far :)

Looks good. I decided to skip the NEX-7 and will probably get the NEX-5N instead. I don't know about the EVF yet. Without it, the camera is pretty much tripod only stills (and handheld video) for me. The EVF is however quite pricey.
