Here is an interesting little improvement I just made to use with my Nex3 Flash.
I cut an ordinary Pingpong Ball into quarters, using a very sharp utility knife. The I attached tiny squares of double-sided adhesive foam tape (like you get from the hardware store, to hang photographs on a wall). Mine is made by the 3M Company. Using sharp scissors, I carefully trimmed the tape, to fit the ends of the pingpong ball. The stick it on to the Nex Flash. That's it!
This cost me nothing, and does beautiful job diffusing the Nex3 flash. Much softer, less specular light is the result. Especially effective when shooting up close. Lovely, Lovely flashlight is the result.
When I used to shoot weddings with my Hasselblads, I always diffused all the camera-mounted flashes, using Photoflex XTC Mini-Softboxes, which I mounted to each flash head I was using. This is about the same thing, just very scaled-down. It works!!

I tried a couple of things, but ended up using a mini "soft box" that is designed for a normal external flash unit. I have to add a strip of velcro to wrap around and hold it onto the Nex flash, but the larger screen seems to offer more diffusion. It does not work for wide angles, which is often fine, if doing indoor portraits.... Until you want to get a wider room view. Oh well.
