Nikkor 3.5cm f2.5 aperture won't open fully

Has anyone seen this fault?
It stops opening between the clicks f4 & f2.8
Works smooth between all the other clicks.

sounds like it wasn't put back together right
is the aperture wide open at between f2.8 and f4 ?
if so the index is off
the ring on the back of the lens behind the spring collar tightens the optical assembly in the mount ,
there is probably a small set screw , remove the screw
you loosen this ring with a spanner rotate the optical assembly so the aperture and click stops line up right , then retighten the ring , as you retighten the ring it moves off index ,
if you are lucky it will only take a couple tries

Thanks so much, I thought it might be something like this, but have only seen it till now on a J8, without clicks.
It does seem "mostly" open where it stops, but looks like it could open a little bit more. I didn't know this lens till just now, so don't know what fully open looks like.
I will probably need some pictures too!

I just checked mine and at F2.5 the aperture blades are fully opened and cannot be seen even a little bit from the front or back of the lens.

David,

are we talking the LTM version here? I presume yes?

Just checked mine, also no blades to be seen wide open. Mine is only a wee bit off the 2.5 mark when fully opened, and a slightly smaller wee bit past the 22 mark when fully closed. I got my lens from Al and I love it dearly. 35mm isn't even that much my focal length but it is such a nice lens to shoot!!

Thanks, yes it is LTM and I can see the blades out a bit from the inner mount, so they aren't hitting f2.5
Beautiful lens, just needs a tweak I hope.

I bought this lens from a Japanese seller with a 100% feedback, and he is paying to have the lens repaired, so off it goes.
I guess I won't be screwing it up myself this time!

I hope it is, and I may have given it a stab myself ( I haven't messed a lens up yet ) had not the great customer service by the seller intervened.

if an iris was put back together with the blades facing the wrong way, it will not close properly :eek::eek: will probably stop half-way.

this sounds more like the iris wasn't seated properly or the adjuster has been messed around with. whichever the case may be, never force it.

LTM version?

Very easy problem to fix. The optical cell is just slightly rotated from the correct position. Just loosen the retaining ring on the back of the lens, adjust to the right position, and retighten the retaining ring.
