Nikkor LTM Nikkor 8.5cm f1.5

Nikkor M39 screw mount lenses
The 85/1.5 Nikkor is usually considered the best performing of the 3 fast 1960's 85/1.5's including the 85/1.5 Canon and 85/1.5 Summarex.

To my eyes, its also the best looking of those 3 by a wide margin.

Of course you can shoot it on any screw mount Leica body, but its has better fcusing accuracy via LTM adapter with the longer effective baselength M's such as the M3 and .85 MP or M7.

Best,
Stephen

Stephen (and anyone else),

Have you shot with this lens, and if so, how does it compare to the Nikkor 8.5cm f2 version? Is it markedly better, especially wide open?

Thanks.

its very unusual for any super fast vintage lens to perform better at the same apertures as a slower lens by the same manufacturer. Usually by mid or small apertures both lenses will be very close.

the 85/1.5 and 85/2 Nikkors are no exceptions. The 85/2 wide open is sharper than the 85/1.5 wide open. High 85/1.5 prices reflect the higher prices when new, as well as collector demand.

I have a Canon 85/1.5. It is easier to focus with a digital camera since I can see any focusing errors and adjust accordingly. I think that the Canon lens is undervalued or under-appreciated. I have not yet used a Nikon 85/1.5.

That's a good idea.. Unfortunately I do not have a leica M. Always wanted an M series camera, but never pulled the trigger. And here I am with a lens that costs twice as much. Yes I am aware of the hypocrisy!

I am going to try it on a Canon L1. The high magnification setting on the rangefinder paired with the parralax correcting shoe-mount viewfinder may be a viable solution. I will report back with results. (may be a few months)
