Not even sure I am asking the question appropriately, but here goes.:bang:

Leica M3 + Nikkor 50mm 1.4 lens (same as on my S3 2000, since sold).... I would like to investigate the possibility and cost of fitting that lens to the M3.

Can someone give me an idea of cost of said parts and availability (ie-where to get said parts)?

Thanks in advance,🙂

Dave- the easiest way to do this is with an Amedeo Adapter. The BEST way to do it is to send Amedeo the Lens and have him make the adapter with that lens in mind. The optics module of the "Millenium Nikkor" is big. No easy way to adapt it to a preexisting focus mount, although a Canon 50/1.4 in LTM "Might Work". That would require custom machining.

I have a post-war "Carl Zeiss" 50/1.5 matched to an Amedeo LTM adapter, and a Sonnar formula Black Nikkor 5cm f1.4 matched to a John Luke M-Mount adapter. The latter was bought here cheap for $90 as the focus was off. I ended up adding 0.2mm to the Shim of the Nikkor to make the focus Perfect. On the Carl Zeiss: I adjusted the variable stand-off ring (works like a shim) to match the focus for wide-open and close-up.

Slightly > 200$ + shipping on Ebay. 🙂 Just google "Amedeo". I had two of his adapters, one of the first he made with a Nikon S focus helicoil and a very recent one, LTM to S-mount. A true masterpiece of craftsman-ship.

The Millennium Nikkor will fit in Amedeo's adapter. My Zeiss Opton 50/2 is a tight squeeze, but does fit. Amedeo's adapters are a new design, very solid and well damped--mine anyway--with a new locking mechanism.

One thing I did notice about the Mill Nikkor on Amedeo's adapter, the thing that sticks out near the back of the lens--locking it to the adapter?--it is narrower than my Zeiss Opton 50/2 and S Nikkor 50/1.4. It gives it a slight looseness when focusing. The lens doesn't wobble in the mount. The other lenses I have fit very well and focus smoothly.

The KEH lens is the classic Sonnar-design, Dave, that you can also find in LTM out of the box (no adapter, this is how I use it).

The Millenium lens is a different, more modern design and comes only in Nikon mount - therefore you'll need the adapter.

The classic Sonnar 50/1.4 is a phantastic lens though; just different.

Roland.

Here's my Amedeo adapter with the older Nikkor S 50/1.4 on a M6.
