I've just obtained this lens. (Shot my first roll tonight and am about to process....) Do I understand correctly that it cannot be used on my Nikon S2, just on my Contax IIa? Or does it merely not close focus on the Nikon? Or focus to infinity? What exactly is the deal? From what I have gathered, is it that the distance from point of focus to film plane is different in the two mounts? What does this mean in practical terms?

Thanks to any and all.

Yes, I know (and meant) that it must have/has the "C" on the barrel, which it does.

I bought it for my Contax, so that's not a problem. I was just wondering if there are any circumstances in which it can be used on the Nikon -- sounds like for landscapes perhaps. I have the 105/2.5 for the Nikon in any case (but the cacmera itself is currently in need of repair) so really the question was academic.

Many thanks.

It should work OK on a Nikon S2 when focused at infinity, closer in it should be OK stopped down to f5.6 or f8. I have used my 'C' marked 8.5cm/2 on a Nikon SP, and it gives good results when used as noted above. I have this lens in both Nikon and Contax versions, and tried the Contax version on my Nikon SP just because I was curious.
