So its been proven time and time again with me that SLR's arent my thing but I was gifted a Nikkormat FT2 with a 50mm 1.4 Nikkor that was my uncles.
It has a bit of a jumpy meter so I decided to take the lens mount off and see if I can see the resistor that supposedly needs cleaning.
In the process this spring came out and I have no idea where it goes back. I reassembled without it and everything works fine so I assume its some sort of tension spring that gives a little extra tension on the coupling ring(?)
Anyone recognize this thing?

I would use the camera if it works. Probably take a piece of clear or frosted tape and tape it to the top just in case you need it. If it were me that's what I would do otherwise as I would forget where I put it!

Looks like a spring that is used to keep wiring out of the way. If that is what it is, don't worry about it.
