Nikon 8000ED scanner issue.

I got a new pc and I have been trying to use it with the Nikon Scanner. The Firewire 1394 socket is missing in the new pc, tried a plug in connect that was rubbish. Just talked with the computer people and they were no help. If I could install a card I would do but I get the feeling that is not an option.
So is there anyone out there that has solved this problem ????????

Depends what kinds of expansion boards, if any, your new computer can accept.
