Just a quick question to the community. Why does it seem that the Nikon Coolscan 8000 is cheaper than the Nikon Coolscan 5000 ED or the 9000??

I just bought an 8000 that had been completely serviced by a fellow here in Virginia who does it as a serious hobby. I used to have a 9000 and stupidly sold it 7 years ago. I have scans from back then and cannot see a difference between those and ones I am making with my 8000. The 8000 is slower, but for the BIG difference in price I can live with it.

Hope this helps :)

Ahh ok
I was only wondering becasue ffordes has 2 Nikon Coolscans 8000 Ed for sale at $1350. (889 pounds). I've seen 9000's go for upwards of 3k on some sites....
Is the scan quality of these things that great that they would be worth more than they originally sold for??

The fact that there are really few other options with the quality, versatility, and robustness of the Nikon SuperCoolscan 9000 has pushed their price up great deal. To get any better quality really takes a Hasselblad Flextight, which is another whole echelon of pricing above current 9000 pricing.

Yikes I just looked up the price for Flextight...I could buy a nice used car with that kind of money.

Bear in mind that Ffordes' pricing is very conservative on their used equipment. Really nice people to deal with also. Bought loads of stuff from them over the years, both new and used, and it's always been a better deal than anywhere else (including private sellers).
