I've been looking for a Nikon film body lately, finally snagged an EM in really good physical condition for 17 bucks shipped! Hopefully the rest of it works 🙂, but for $17 bucks who cares. Anybody use these little guys?

I've bought three...two of them were DOA...fortunately the one that works is in mint condition too. It is sort of tricky to refoam the mirror on these gems. If you have any F cameras you will notice the plastic feel right away. Pretty decent cameras however and they make pictures about the same as the other nikons from the period. I have the hard plastic case for mine along with the flash and a Series E 50/1.8. I would like to someday have all the Series E lenses that go with the kit along with the motordrive.

Yeah, I've had a F3, FM3a and a Nikkormat. I sold them all over time to go solidly digital, but I keep getting drawn back 🙂. I'm hoping it works out of the box but they're cheap enough, maybe I can find a service manual.

I have enough cameras (especially the heavy variety), but the EM caught my eye... until I saw the lack of manual exposure mode. The FG seems like my ideal for something tiny in F mount.

For $17.00 a working EM is a steal!
They're essentially point and shoot film cameras that accept interchangeable lens.
For me their greatest drawbacks are the lack of a Metered Manual exposure mode and a Depth of Field preview ( although I believe you can get around that problem by slightly twisting the lens as if removing it, which will stop it down to the taking aperture).
I think the EM was originally designed for those who wanted a bit more than a fixed lens point and shoot to take snapshots without having to learn much about photography to do so, or wanted a relatively inexpensive way to get into the Nikon system by matching this body up with the series E lenses, and in that respect it was a successful camera.

I wanted to get something cheap to kick around with. I mainly use A mode anyhow, even on my D7000. I figured I'd use the ISO dial for fine tuning the exposure. I have a 50mm f2 lens for it, but I'm also looking for a cheap 35mm E-series for it. I was really happy with the price 🙂. I'm still watching the FE and FM listing, sometime there are beat up users for around 50 bucks...
