I should probably know this, but is there in existence an adaptor that would allow the use of Nikon F SLR lenses on a Nikon RF camera?

Cheers,

Dez

Yes, but hard to find and expensive. I looked for years without success. I was able to find a Nikon 105 bright line but no F to S adapter.

There are folks who can make them out there but the price was out of my ability to pay over the past four years.

Do not give up the hunt, I am sure it will be worth the win.

There certainly is. Uncoupled of course. Almost impossible to find though. I was very lucky to get one from HK just a few weeks ago.

Thanks.

Thanks.

Now that I know there is such a thing, I'll keep looking.

Cheers,

Dez

Wow, I didn't realize that they have become so rare.

I bought a Cosina one, when I had a bloodlust for using a 2.1cm Nikon on an RF. It allowed me to use the affordable 2.1cm SLR lens on my Nikon SP.

Best of luck locating one. I find that patience often wins, and if you tell people you want one, one magically will appear.

Vick, thats the combo I use too. Much cheaper than the Rf 21f4 - though I saw one of these in Tokyo for less than $3000 - with back cap and finder - though no hood. Still about 10 times what I paid for my 21f4 and VC adapter.

Vick, I'm on the lookout for a Nikkor 2.1cm SLR lens. Let me know if you spot on. While I'm looking I'm going to try out the Super Wide-Heliar 15mm lens :)

Where on earth?

Where on earth?

did you find that Nikon F-S adaptor, Jonny, and are there by any chance more where that one came from?

Cheers,
Dez

REALLY hard to find, so..

REALLY hard to find, so..

This thing is really scarce. the only one I have heard of is made by Cosina-Voigtlander, and the only vendor in the US, Camera Quest, is advertising to BUY them.

So being impatient and cheap, I'm going to try to roll my own. I'm going to try combining a cheap Nikon to 4/3 adaptor, the mount from the back of a throwaway Kiev lens, a vernier caliper, and a lathe, and see what I can come up with. If I end up with anything useable, I'll document it and post it on the list.

Cheers,
Dez

All kinds of people seem to want one, and there are none readily available.
At the very least we should ask Mr. K. at Cosina if he'd be willing to take pre-paid orders and have more made up. If any of the members here who are friendly with him will PM me his email or mailing address, I'll inquire on behalf of the Nikonophiles here.
We'll never know until we ask him. And the worst that can happen is he'll say no.

Machining an adaptor

Machining an adaptor

Well, I now have my Nikon F to 4/3 adaptor, and a couple of Kiev lenses that have seen better days, so this weekend I will see if with the aid of my lathe and some dumb luck, I can create an F-to-S adaptor.
It would help a great deal if anyone could tell me the precise front-of-lensmount to film plane distances for the F and the S cameras. For the S camera, that would be the distance to the front surface of the male bayonet around the mount. I can easily measure the distance on the F (I think it is 46.5mm), but it is a tricky measurement on the S. Otherwise it is a trial and error process. I will try to take some pictures and if anything useful comes out of it, I will post the method.

Cheers,
Dez

I think I'd rather have the Contax Zeiss 21mm f/4.5 Biogon rather than the SLR 2.1cm, but I've been looking for both for a LONG time.
I've bought two in the last month. The first was so oily I couldn't see through it and the second had a cracked internal element. 21/4.5 Biogon that is

Dez, the S-mount register is 34.85mm according to this website.

Good luck!

Jon made friends with the right person. I may be putting my F-S/C adapter up for sale in the next few weeks if I finally find a good Contax 21/4.5 or buy this Nikkor-O 2.1cm.
