I recently noticed that it's often cheaper to buy a whole camera with prism attached than it is to buy just a prism. Case in point: I want a DE-1 prism for my F2, but a relatively beat up one is around $280, whereas a nice F2 with prism attached is about the same price.

That's just the way these cookies crumble,
Why not get the whole shebang for your buckaroo's.

It's tempting, but I already have 2 F2s.

Send one across the pond to Solver to get some TLC, then sell other to someone for the price difference between what you paid and what you wanted to pay.

That is a exception to the rule - the DE-1 is extremely overpriced. Along with the DP-3 and DP-12 it is one out of only three prisms where demand is higher than the supply. Reduction to unmetered, upgrade to the top Non-AI and AI metered prisms being the three options everybody considers whenever the original meter fails. Just about every other prism (even odd ones like the sports finders) is actually decreasing in price...

So, just keep the prism and sell the body.

If you keep your eye open you'll find F2's with the prism(s) you want for almost nothing on eBay. These are the ones from sellers that don't know the difference between prisms. There is a risk of things not working though so be prepared to return or repair.
Last year I got a black (!) DE-1 that just happened to be attached to a nice black F2 and a 35mm f/2.8 lens. I sold the other stuff and kept the DE-1 and paid basically nothing for it.
