After re-visiting Calzone's thread about the F3 shots I concluded this board needs a F2 tribute thread. Isn't it supposed to be the best mechanical SLR Nikon ever made, right?

F2 owners shouldn't be shy and show with pride their cameras and shots.

A few decades ago, when I worked for a newspaper, I normally carried a Nikon F2 with a 35mm f/2, an 85mm f/1.8, and a 180mm f/2.8. I carried these items plus a Vivitar 283 flash, a handheld light meter, and a few rolls of b&w film in a small army surplus bag on a 650cc BSA motorcycle.

The F2 body and the 85 and 180mm lenses shown in this photo have survived years of use and abuse. The 85mm f/1.8 was the second Nikon lens I purchased and the 180mm was the third. Both were originally pre-AI lenses that I had AI’d by Nikon.

The 35mm f/2 lens was the first Nikon lens I purchased. It too was AI’d by Nikon. However, since it was the lens I used the most, it received a lot more wear and tear than the other equipment. I had to replace it twice – once with another 35mm f/2 and eventually with the 35mm f/1.4 shown in this photo.

Love my F2. Just bought a motor drive for it, just for fun. I like to use the classic 2.1cm, 3.5cm, 5cm, and 10.5cm lenses on it (9-blade apertures on all but the 2.1cm).

Travis...I put that there so when someone asks if it's digital I show them the picture on the back and say Yes...most people believe me...

My Nikon F2 w/ standard prism was stolen out of my about a month ago. Loved it a whole lot. Miss it dearly.

The photos below were taken with a Nikon F2 and the following lenses:
18mm Nikon f/3.5
24mm Nikon f/2 AI
28mm Nikon f/2.8 AIS
35mm Nikon f/1.4 AI
50mm Nikon f/1.4 AF-D
85mm Nikon f/1.8 AI converted
105mm image was either Nikon f/2.5 AIS or Nikon f/2.8 micro
180mm Nikon f/2.8 AI converted
400mm f/5.6 Tokina AT-X auto focus
1000mm Nikon f/11 mirror
2000mm image was taken with the 1000mm mirror lens and a Nikon TC-300 2x Tele-Converter

I've got two F2S's now, though I don't shoot them enough. Been trying to get more stuff done unrelated to photography, so that's been occupying my time lately. And I've just got too many cameras to keep these in rotation all the time. I hope to remedy that in the coming year.

My first F2S

And the second one

You'll have to pardon the Series E lens on it, as that's the way it came.

The second one was sort of an impulse buy, as it was going cheap.

I just love my old school Nikons. Takes me back to the day I bought my first one in '73 (Nikkormat FTn).

Loved my old beaten one. Shame I sold it, but the f3 was a little more versatile.
This ended up being published a couple of times, taken with an f2a and the lowly 50mm 1.8 ai....

Nice setup, I also have a pre-AI Nikkor AId by the factory:

I assume I prefer them because they don't have the rubber ring, and I wish I could get an 85mm and a 35mm as well, my setup at the moment is limited: this 50mm f1.4 and an Arsenal Granit 11 that works great but weights like the barrell of a Kalashnikov.

love the VW bus bakery conversion !!!!

All are great though...

Yes, that one is great and one of my favourite subjects, also in B&W:

...but this one was taken with a Canon F-1N and FD50 mm f1.2...perhaps I should also open an F-1 tribute thread as well.

However, since you're a fan of hot rodded VW vans I assume you'd like this one as well:

F2AS shots this time!:p

I've owned all the F-series, aside from the F4 - which never attracted me. I love the F2 although my F2 Photomic (DP1 head) wasn't the best reliability-wise. I loved my F3HP for its sheer solidity and reliability but I am sorely tempted to dip into the F2 market again and get an AS or SB as a long-term user. Aside from how good the camera is, I doubt any SLR manufacturer has made a better looking camera.
