Today, it occurred to me that I have no idea where the Nikon F6 is... is it in production? Is it on hold? Has Nikon ceased production?
While we have real life problems in this world, from personal losses like losing friends and family, and worldwide turmoil, it seems that the F6 has been quietly fading from every source, including NikonUSA.
Does Nikon have a road map for their products?
Does anyone have a true update to share on the availability of the F6? Please note that this thread is specifically about the availability of the Nikon F6 and is definitely not about opinions of which camera is best; new or used; value; or even film vs. digital.
Consider my question a "wake-up call".

The F6 is still listed for sale by NikonUSA. There are also posts on this website from recent buyers. I too think it needs an update such as the D5 autofocus.

Hi, thanks, yes, it is listed at $200 more than BH Photo.
However, when one clicks in Buy Now, it says "Out of Stock".
No explanation anywhere?

It would be nice if Nikon gave some assurances that the camera is still in production, if it is, or that they will be producing in batches based on orders.

NikonUSA's website is kind of strange about out of stock. I wanted one of the rarer new Nikkor lenses and it was listed as out of stock. I did order one from my local NAS dealer anyway. It arrived within a week.
I doubt Nikon has any plans for an F7. We know there will be a D6 soon; there are no details about it.

Out of stock. More on the way... BH sent me an update yesterday that they were sorry. No cameras and no idea if or when.
Why is this always a secret? Hasselblad is doing the same thing lately.
Ah, well...

From my understanding, F6 cameras are made in limited batches, only when needed. Maybe there is still some stock floating around somewhere in the world and Nikon doesn't feel the need to crank out another batch until those are all depleted. Of course I'm just guessing.

The "global" websites of Japanese companies generally aren't reliable indications of what's going on at headquarters - compared to the home-market site they're less complete, generally not updated as frequently, and offer no clarity about which products are offered in which markets.

B&H shows in stock for a refurbished body and "more coming soon" for the new body. I bought one new from them earlier this year. If memory serves, they were listed as "more on the way" when I first tried to buy, and they came into stock within a week or so. I may have gotten lucky. I have the feeling that B&H may only order or receive a few of these at a time.
I give Nikon credit for keeping this camera in production, and I've read that they are largely assembled by hand. It would not be surprising if Nikon did not make a batch until they had an indication of low stock.
It would be a very positive sign in the film photography world if Nikon did an F7. I'd be very surprised though. The small market that exists for this must now consist solely of serious amateur film photographers. I think as a group we probably don't represent a large enough market for the blazingly fast continuous autofocus and frame rates that sports and wildlife shooters need. They are probably all using digital now anyway.

I must say, as a long time user of Canon for SLR and point and shoot cameras, I am very impressed that Nikon is still producing a leading edge film camera.
Other than Leica, what other manufacturers are still doing this? Maybe it’s time to expand my horizons...

Lomo makes the LC-A 120.
Don't scoff, there is nothing like it. Super wide angle 6x6 body w/ auto metering. If you get a good one, they are great.
