My prevous work has a Nikon LS 2000 standing on the shelf, and i can buy it for amount that is kind of budget friendly . . I`m aware of that i have to buy a scsi to usb adapter and silverfast for OS-X 10.4, but think i can live with that if the scanner is ok.

Any users out there, for my self i just have used a Coolscan 8000 and a Imacon Flexlight II ( and since my parents don`t agree on taking a 2nd loan on the house, the imacon is out of sight, Bummer .. :D )

And budget friendly is always a good starter.

Thanks.

I have LS2000 and like it a lot. I would strongly encourage you to get Vuescan if you plan on doing black and white scans, it really does miracles.
It scans at 2700 dpi which will give you max print size of 8.5x11, but for me this is not a limiting factor.

Thanks, see that you recommend Vuescan, any other reason than B&W scans to get this software instead of Silverfast ?

Main use would probably be Black and White scans, and some old colour negatives since my mum used to work with photo 35 years ago and have lots of bags with old film.

would normally not make prints larger than 20x30 cm and 300 dpi . .
