Nikon M

Anyone shooting with Nikon M?
Despite its shortcomings (weight, 24mm x34mm film gate, up to1/500th shutter speed), it still clicks strong today. Using the eyepiece diopter corrector, 0.75x viewfinder can be enlarged to almost lifesize.

Lens is Nikkor SC 5cm f1.5 with Fujicolor 100 film
All images wide open @ f1.5, prone to flare as prevalent in Sonnar type lenses but gives unique rendering.

I have one. It was a basket case when I bought it, shutter curtains were stuck, and the lens was so cloudy you couldn't see through it. I sent it off to Stephen Gandy's repair tech who performed a CLA and it came back looking like new. Came with a Nikkor 50/2.0 and I bought a (rare) Canon 28/3.5 in Contax/Nikon mount for when I want a wide-angle. Heavy and very solid, but with a squinty viewfinder that takes some getting used to (compared to a Leica M). I do enjoy using it, though a Leica M or Canon VI-T are what I usually shoot with when shooting a rangefinder.

I found mine from an estate sale, the lens was in good shape optically, only a slight oil on the blades, as it was kept in relatively stable humidity environment, but the shutter curtains were replaced by a Japanese repairman. It is heavier than later S cameras but I find this additional weight giving more stability in low shutter speeds when used hand-held. Viewfinder is not as bright as Leica M or later Nikon S2 or SP is much more sophisticated and easier to use but I find Nikon M a fun camera to use.
