Who can install new shutter curtains for a Nikon S rangefinder in the US? Maybe a CLA, but I won't know to what extent until I can test this camera. The curtains are in bad shape--I don't think they are repairable. Most functions work well, like focusing and shutter speeds. Rangefinder looks pretty clean and the patch looks good as well.

DAG would have been my first choice but for now he’s only repairing Leica. He told me maybe this summer he might work on other cameras.

As long as it's coming apart for curtains, you might as well have a full CLA.

It's 60+ years old, and if the inner workings aren't gummy yet, they will be before long. The slow speeds are usually the first parts to stop working in an S.

If a good tech works on it, you probably won't have to have it serviced again in your lifetime.

Just went through this myself (See Nikon my post) Sen the camera to Portland Camera Services $300 for CLA and Shutter replacement. They hit me last minute with a $40 vulcanite replacement fee on top of that, which seems fishy. I should have the camera back in a week or so I will post more then.

This is a different camera. I sent my S2 for a CLA and have the 35mm f/2.5 lens fixed. The repairer fixed the lens but couldn't budge the screws on the front panel so the S2 wasn't cla'd. I wonder if this will be a problem for another shop? I could just wait until Don Goldberg is caught up but that might be summer or later before he will accept my camera. I might try procamera but I'll see how they did with the S first.

An update re: the S and S2.

The S came back from procamera with new shutter curtains and a cla. Everything looks fantastic--I'm really pleased they brought this camera back to life.

DAG finally got back to me and accepted my S2 for a full CLA. He's had it for a couple of weeks and gave me a month turn around time.
