If you have to have the first S3 off the production line, there it is folks!

I saw a brand new Year of the Dog FM2/T in Taipei many years ago. It was muuuuuch cheaper than GBP 5,000. If I knew then what I know now, I certainly would have grabbed it :bang:

The seller has sold his F2 High Speed for GBP7000. Maybe the S3 will move yet.

Is anyone (apart from Jon and me) interested in Nikon rangefinders any more? This part of the forum is much too quiet.

I would love an SP and a couple lenses like a 5cm f/1.4, 2.8cm, and a 10.5cm f/2.5, but I simply don't have the money to buy them. I have so much gear right now that most of it has to go before getting anything else. Unfortunately, I'm also searching for employment, so a Nikon RF will have to wait for quite some time. I wish I never sold my old kit but I needed the money at the time.

Just got into using this type of camera and I love using it. but I just sent mine in for a CLA and overhaul so it will be some time before I get to properly use it. so far, I'm loving the system. shame they couldn't keep up with Leica in the rangefinder sales department in the 1950's.

Yes hello! It is definitely too quiet.

This is really cool. Thanks for sharing! I like that FM2T Year of the Dog as well.

The first Nikon S3, serial number 6300001 is for sale on UK eBay. Priced at GBP5000, it's not cheap but it looks to be in good condition, and I suppose the number commands quite a premium.

The seller has some other interesting Nikon kit for sale including F2 High Speed and FM2/T Year of the Dog

Strange listing for the S3. Seller doesn't mention anything about the state of the camera or the lens, and if that's the case I normally assume the worst about the condition.

Ouch. If I were ever to own a Nikon, that would be too choice.

I like my S2. I was tempted by the S3 but strangely every one I checked out had a very indistinct RF patch, while the one in my older S2 is nice and bright.

As for this #1 S3, I prefer the S3 2000 in black. I'm just a sucker for the way that camera looks.

I'm into Nikon rangefinders. My last acquisition was a few months ago, an unsynced M with 50/1.5 that appears to be factory synced.

Probably a test camera as it was bought by a US military man who never went back to Japan after his tour was over.

Thanks for the responses. Great to see there are still fellow enthusiasts out there. I see the seller on eBay selling S3 no 1 has now listed a black S3 Millenium Edition at GBP3000 and F3H High Speed kit at an eye watering GBP11000.

Here's an interesting auction result for the Nikon RF guys! A genuine hood for the LTM version of the W-Nikkor 3.5cm f2.5 lens (34.5mm filter size) sold for 45,100 JPY tonight on the Yahoo Japan auctions (link below). Its the first hood of this type I've ever seen for sale. Expensive?? I'm actually surprised it didn't sell for more.

Extremely rare, and as you say, probably not expensive.

PS I tried to change the thread title to encompass other items but only succeeding in changing it on the first post.

I'm still fond of my Nikon RFs and love to take them out every now and then. James is partly responsible for keeping my interest in this system alive. :)
