Hi Everyone,
I bought the Nissin Di866 Mark II flashgun for use on a Nikon D5000 and various vintage cameras.

Generally the flashgun performed well and did everything it said on the box. Exposure control in Av mode with vintage cameras is very good. However, I found three serious drawbacks with it:

1) At power-on in Av mode the display indicates the wrong aperture. You have to press UP then DOWN to refresh the display so that it displays the correct setting. A fairly serious problem I think.

2) The hot-shoe contact is always live. This means you cannot fit it straight into the cold-shoe of older cameras as this shorts out the hot-shoe contact. Other flashguns switch off the hot shoe contact when a PC cord is being used. Why can't this one?

3) There's no confidence light. Again, I've got other budget flashguns and they've got a confidence light, why hasn't the Di866?

These three problems only matter in Av mode. If you are only using it fully auto dedicated hot-shoe mode, then you won't be troubled. (Chimping the screen on your digital will make do for the lack of a confidence light.) However, for use with non-dedicated cameras I would not recommend this flash.
