To think all my friends thought I was crazy spending $5K on mine. The case is pretty nice, but can't be much more than $2K, so I guess the increased value is all in the serial number?

Worth a click, it's up there to see the photos for the next 6 days.

Isn't this the same limited edition that was being sold not too long ago for $10,000 or was it Euro10,000 - in any case - this would be a nice appreciation in price for that vendor.

You are not even allowed to breathe on the lens or take a long look at it in case its value goes down. What a great paper weight this is.

Note the fineprint... a 19% sales tax will be added if you are in the EU... make sure that you buy a ticket to the other side of the world to avoid the $4000 tax

Things like this makes me not want to use Leica any more. It's just some sort of collectable for many and it adds to the reputations Leica now days is cultivating; not as a serious tool of photography (not a tool on any level of photography really), but simply as a relic to put on display for way too rich people.

Makes me sick and very sad.
We needn't indulge this kind of behaviour, but get out and do some serious work or at least have great fun with out favourite pastime.

My $0.05

This isn't anything like the top end of the watch market. e.g. over $100K for tourbillon watches.

I admire all the current owners of the spherical 50/1 Noctilux, who bought them, use them, and sold them for whatever reasons.

The last 100, like the one in the cigar box, are exactly like the standard production. Not black paint. Not solid titanium body. Not gold inlay engraving. Not skin-of-rare-species focus ring.

I'm glad I don't have to be paying today's prices for a Noctilux. It is a landmark lens, in the history of Leica, and in photography. And I'm okay with Leica making a commemorative item of it.

I'm not as okay with them pricing the 50/0.95 at $10K; I'd like to shoot with one sometime.

I have my mechanical wrist watch to look good (and wealthy 😎), I have my cellular to tell time 🙂

A mechanical watch lost it's utilitarianism a long time ago. No one would argue with that (even a certified chronometer can gain or lose 7sec/24h). I hope the analogy was made in haste or it strengthens my fear.
