Last December I was in Milan, and decided to pay a visit to the famous Cimitero Monumentale, a monumental cemetery (as the name says) where rich people, important & noble families had their final resting places. Nowadays, there aren't any free spots anymore, and one can get buried there only if their family grave is there.

All pictures taken with a leica M2 and a Noctilux, wide open or thereabouts; film was Arista Premium 100 (a.k.a. Plus X) developed in 510-Pyro and scanned with a Coolscan 9000.

A few samples here:

As always, C&C are very welcome.

#4 and #5 (the last one) for me ! This must be a very special atmosphere. Around which time did you go there, late afternoon ?

Cheers,

Gabor

That last one is really nice.

^ Agreed; I really like the last one also.

These are very special cemetery shots, the best I've ever seen.

Thank you everyone for the nice comments - I was there about midday actually, but it was a very dark, grey Milan winter day, with very diffused light (and not much of it for that matter). The atmosphere is indeed weird/special, and the architectures & sculptures are just great 😀

Thanks again!

I like to take pictures in cemeteries, and have been taking them for a long time. These are really good, both for the quality of the photographs and the evocative way you have shot them as well as the exceptional statues. Nice! More!

Thank you very much Pavel, your comments are very much appreciated 😀 more to be found here: http://www.pbase.com/vieripbase/monumentale_root

They are beautiful Vieri. There is a sense of life in the photos. The last is also my favorite because of the depth of field, I love the angel whispering in her ear and holding her elbow.I have just put a deposit on a F1 50mm noctilux. I will need that angel's help I think
