noisy coolscan LS4000?

Hi to all,

I just got a Coolscan LS4000, it works fine with NikonScan 4, but performig preview and scan at some stages of the process it makes a "rattle " noise but the scans are OK. Is this noise normal?

Also I cleaned the mirror, but there are some stains that will not come out. There was dust and I used a sensor cleaning kit with isopropyl alcohol, but I was afraid to rub harder. Is there any other cleaning fluid that can be used safely?

The noise is coming from the stepper motors and is normal.
It may be advisable to clean insude and lubricate the scanner. Aging solidifies the lubricants.

Thanks JR,

That is the tread I followed to clean the mirror and now scans are cleaner. I also cleaned all dust, but I did not lubricate anything. I will wait until I find out the points to lube and the type of grease.

I hope someone can give me this information.
