I bought recently a classic Nokton 40. This is a lens that I really like but on my M9-P has a back focusing. I contacted the official importer in Italy who told me that the Voigtlander lenses are not made to be used on the Leica cameras and, therefore, the problem does not concern him. I believe that this response is incredible. I would like know your opinions and advice.
Thank you

Wow, that's an unfortunate response. I had the Nokton 40 and foolishly sold it. It's a great lens.

I'd recommend having a technician calibrate the lens for your M9-P. Though, the tech would likely need both the lens and the body to get it spot on.

Mine works just fine on my M2, M3, and CL. It may be that digital cameras are less forgiving, though - but the lens is made for the Leica M mount and its flange focal distance, so I'd consider the importer's response to be hogwash.

I sent the lens by an excellent repair in Bologna, but he told me not to be able to calibrate.
Now I try with another repairer.
What is incredible is the official importer response.
I'd like to know what you think Stephen Gandy's CameraQuest that advertises on its website the Voigtlander lenses with Leica digital cameras !!
One thing is certain, the service assistance Voigtlander in Italy is non-existent. Repairs are performed only in Japan!

I can confirm that. It will take at least two months until you'll have your lens back. That is my experience with my Ultron 35mm f/1.7 VM.

However, the service is technically excellent!

Erik.

before you send the lens in, check if your M9-P focuses 'spot on' with other 'bright' lenses, perform some tests with a bright lens at different distances close/mid/far, It could be that the body has slight front/backfocus and the lens is perfectly fine.. with 'bright' I mean at least f1.4 lens or 50/2. might be quicker and easier to have the body calibrated.

Thanks Maitani.
Obviously my M9 is perfect with all my other Leica lenses.
I wrote that my Nokton has problems of "back focusing" after doing all the necessary tests.
