Noob QL17 GIII Meter Question...

OK, I have adaft question regarding my recently acquired GIII...

Does the meter function all the time if the camera is in auto mode and the lens cap is off? I'm used to cameras where the meter is only active once the shutter release is partly pressed.

Yes. In fact, half-depressing the shutter engages exposure lock.

I have quite a few canonets, and yes, the only on/off switch is the lens cap.

You need to switch the meter off by going to manual mode, especially if you leave the camera for some time. (Better still take the battery out) As as I know, there is no "meter" switch activated by the lens cap. Because of the characteristics of light dependant cells, the current drain will be very small with the lens cap on but it will be there. Why do you think there are so many corroded battery compartments.
