The Nooky is certainly a marvel of engineering ingenuity. I initially had some bad luck with it. The wedge prism of the Nooky was loose in the housing. I re-aligned it at it's closest distance of 16.5" to the film plane using a steel rule . I got very lucky and it worked.

I've been shooting the Nooky/Summar combination for most of the summer. I'm surprised by it's sharpness and out of focus presentation.

When the lens is wide open the Summar takes out a virtual paintbrush and literally paints a picture. I've done some prints on matte paper and they look stunning. For B&W the combination can turn your picture into stone.

This is a very unique and interesting lens setup. I have a very hard time putting it down to use another lens.

Cheers,
Gary

#3 is a fine example of the Summar look -- very difficult to put into words, but to me it has a certain European classiness or subtlety.

Hi Gary,

These are absolutely wonderful photographs, especially the flowers.
Now I'll have to get out my Summar and Nooky. What film did you use, BTW?

Thanks for sharing!

Best,
David

BTW...Thanks for the nice comments!

Flowers seem to be the best subject for this combo but I'm sure there are others.

Since flowers seem to be the hit, here are some more from my summer collection...

The bee takes center stage.;-)

This one gave a 3D look using it as my desktop background.

A morning rain adds to the beauty of this rose.

This one was wide open. Bright sunlight reflected off the stems giving it a glowing like quality.

Hello, Gary,

Thanks for the film info. The color saturation is great. Did you juice the contrast in post-processing, or is that the film? Walgreens house brand is probably repackaged Fuji which yields good contrast with the old, uncoated lenses. The rose with water droplets is superb.

I have the identical set-up: Summar & Nooky on a IIIA.

Best,
David

Hi David, There is no post processing. I scan them on a old Epson 4870 and that's it.

I really think it's the Nooky/Summar combo that does it. Could be that my Summar was color coated after the war, hmmm?

I've also shot with Kodak Portra 400 and I get similar saturation. In fact I took some shots today of a nice flower set-up with Portra 400 and I'll post some from that batch.

So cool you have the same setup! My IIIA is of a 1936 vintage.

Cheers,
Gary
