NYC area camera show this Sunday

The second Sunday camera show is happening this Sunday at the Parish Drive Fireman's Hall in Wayne, NJ.

It's held on the second Sunday of each month and I've been going for about the last six. I've selfishly kept this to myself because I've picked up some real good deals there, such as a real clean Kiev 4a with lens for $25 and an FT-2 for $125. However, if they don't get more attendees I'm afraid the show will close. Already the dealers are starting to thin out.

It's real easy to get to. If you can get to route 80 you can make it easily. Take 80 to 23 north and get off the first exit. Follow the signs to the firehouse -about three blocks off the highway.

I have no connection to the event except as a customer. If anyone has any questions, email or pm me. I hope to see people there

Giving this a bump for tomorrow's show. Forgot to do it earlier.

Wish I lived just a bit closer. Sundays are tough for me but I would like to get down for a show like this. Apparently there is a big camera show in the Boston area too that is just within my reach.

OT, the PhotoPlus Expo in NYC is again in the end of October. I have registered but I don't know if I will be able to make it down yet. It is a great expo if you want to see everything new that is going on in the photo world.

Just curious, are there any particular "RF- or basically camera-riendly" cities/states over there? Like if I ever find my way in your part of the world, what places would be best to hit for RF shopping? Would that be the NYC mentioned?

Kat, I think the bigger question is are there any cities with real camera shops around anymore. The shops in CT have very little if any used stuff in them any more. (Note I have not been to Camera Wholesalers in Stamford which is said to have a good selection and the Camera Bar in Hartford does, but I think they price there stuff way too high and are not that friendly) There were two which I used to swing by on a semi regular basis but both have started selling there stuff on ebay. Faster sales is better business for them, better than having things under glass waiting for a sale I guess. What I have found is that the shops are transitioning over to services, processing, digital thingys, pro services, mounting and framing. Unfortunately, shopping for camera stuff more and more is becoming an internet business. Camera shows like the one Nick is mentioning are even rear. Use your shopping time if you visit to shot instead.

rover, thanks for the reply. That is so sad, it's like they're getting phased out. Where do those ebay folks get their stock, are there really that many garage sales and estate sales?

for older, classic gear, i was very disappointed in the few shops we managed to visit during my last trip to the big apple.
they had nothing in stock, a few flters at prices that trump might have afforded.

I think for now Kat the answer is yes. They surely take trade-ins to for digitals and other items they sell. I don't think the small store is dead yet, just changing dramatically to survive.

Kat, I would do a search on the Camera Fair in Japan that one of the members went to recently (MTokue?). That would also be closer to you geographically. And considering that more than half of all the Leicas ever made are presently in Japan, I am sure the choices would be incredible.

Thanks for the tip, ray, interesting...

Though things there are usually very expensive, but one of the shops in Hidalgo I talked to mentioned they throw out a lot of old stuff there, so maybe the classics won't be too pricey.

I haven't bumped this in a while. Tomorrow is the show. Same time, same place. I missed last month's show with the flu.

If any fellow RF'ers are there, I'll have a Leica M6 with a 21mm SA around my neck.

Sunday is going to be a bad day for traveling unfortunately with the Noreaster coming through.
