Well I went and did it. I bought a Russian rangefinder, a Fed, number 2, model e, type 1, black, from DD on RFF! God help me now.

Yes, Comrad! I notice you have 2 Fed2e's, Gordon. Do you have any words of adice in their use?
I gave in too Frank. An Iskra and a Kiev 4a are speeding their way to me as we speak. It was just a matter of time I guess.

You've done the right thing, Frank. Don't worry about it, have a drink, and relax. Welcome to the Red Side.

I have a broken Zorki 4K - I keep it in a box and don't let it see my other cameras.

Just put some film in it, Sunny 16 the light and go. Glad I got my Feds before this forum has the supply depleted.
"The price of Feds hit the $50 mark on Ebay today. The market closed down $21.73 in very heavy trading. Vladimir Putin made a special appearance to assure anxious investors that Russia still had big reserves of Feds in stock in an abandoned warehouse in Minsk. "With the aid of the latest technology" he said, "We can assure you that the Feds buried under many strata of defunct forklifts can be recovered in time to avoid a panic."

Welcome to the red side, brother. I love the FSU stuff. It was a great way for me to get involved in RF. This one is my favorite.
Enjoy your Fed 2!

Once again it is proven that RFF is a dangerous place to hang around.

Ditto. I still remember my first RF camera. A Fed-2 bought in the far far away spring of 2003

I can't quite remember when I got involved with Russian RF cameras. I think it was after getting involved in Voigtlander RF cameras, some time in 2003. I found Jim Blazik's site (who hasn't, right?) and got my first FED2. There were a few forums on Russian RF cameras I attended in those days and learned quite a bit fom them. The one other place I was frequenting was Photo.net but my-oh-my what a bunch of prejudiced SOBs I found there when it came to Russian RF cameras! Then I found RFF after reading a thread by Jorge, advertising for RFF. I'm glad I found RFF but, unlike many of those who went over to the Red Side, I haven't bought a single Russian RF in over a year. I've only bought Russian lenses: a J-9 early 2004, and just recently as an X-mas gift to myself a J-3, a J-11 and another (black) J-8.
No matter how resilient you are, the Russian gear-bug will get you anyway, and you're tainted for life. I'm secretly looking at those Russian ultra-wide lenses in Eos mount. Not much use in my daily shooting but neither are my 2 FED-2s, my FED-5 and my Zorki-4.

Hello Roberto,
Your Kiev 4a photos are very impressive. I have Kiev 4a (72 vintage) that I aquired on eBay. After having it apart and doing some basic cleaning & tinkering, I loaded it with an expired roll of KODAK 400 Max and did the "tourist thing" in cottage country.
I was amazed at the sharpness of the lens and overall picture quality.
I am currently working on my ZORKY 4, and hope it will be as good.
Regards to all and Happy New Year !!!

Thanks Bill!
I abandoned my Nikon F3 when I realized that the bottleneck was the photographer and not the camera... I moved myself to a minimalist approach ( I hate bulky things hanging form my neck..)
Cheers,

Frank,
I remember seeing a really bad scifi movie that claimed viruses could spread from computer monitors to people. I laughed at the time but now I'm starting to worry(especially as I am a carrier
)
There are two saving graces about these cameras: Unless you find yourself looking for the really off the wall cameras(Kiev 90 any one?) they are mostly pretty cheap!
And : they are so much fun !
I hope you enjoy yours as much as I have enjoyed mine!
